Nova by Chuck Black

Review

Summary: Daeson Starlore thought he knew the truth...but what will he do when presented with an undeniable reality that is opposite of everything he has been taught to believe?

Notes: This series is one of my favorites of all time! Imagine Star Wars...but an allegory! Epic, right? The series begins during the time of Moses and will end (It’s not finished yet) with the end of the world. The Starlore Legacy follows the lives of one family, starting with the father as a young man, then to his daughter, then to her son. The allegorical parts are not forced or unrealistic. When one reads these books, one comes to care for the characters who have to face various trials knowing that the testing of their faith produces endurance. Since the story is an allegory, you know basically what will happen, but there are still twists. If I said them here, that would be an enormous spoiler! Also, this, not Star Wars, is what turned me into a serious spaceship sci-fi fan. Also, the diagrams of the weapons and vehicles are fantastic.

Violence: Very high levels. Death, incineration, explosions, blaster fights, lightsaber (called talons) duels, evil creepy robots, evil creepy humans, betrayal, execution, intense chase scenes. So, not any more violence than the Bible.

Romance: Yes. The couples often think of each other. It isn’t too mushy, but it is clear that they love each other.

Scary themes: Execution! Evil emperor! Misguided zealots! SPOILER! One woman is pregnant with twins and one of them is stolen from her before she even knows that she is pregnant. (It’s in pretty vague terms) For me, that was the most disturbing thing in the series, to date.

Genre: Allegory/Science Fiction
