The Unraveling of Emlyn DuLaine, The Rivenlea Sphere #1, by Linsay A. Franking
Summary: Emylyn watched her sister unravel. Yes, unravel. Now that she is in the world of Rivenlea where all the stories are kept, maybe she can find her sister.
Notes: Another book about books! In this one, all the stories of the world are kept in glass spheres and teams called Novems go into them to keep the story how it is supposed to be. The story is told from Emlyn's point of view, and that makes it great! Her mind jumps from one thing to another so quickly, and she says things, but most people didn't follow her train of thought. We can, because it is written out for us. Als, this book is funny! I kept giggling throughout it. Not that it is a comedy. It's very serious, but Emlyn's personality is so vibrant. Like the cover of the book. (And the cover is amazing!)
Age of Main Character: Seventeen
Violence: threatened at gunpoint, attacked by jabberwockies,CPR, general peril. Not gruesome at all.
Romance: Emlyn is determined that she will not become a YA trope...how does that usually work? The guy that she likes, Laramie Shayle is, as the book says, swoony, chivalrous, and a little bit of a jerk because he knows he's good-looking and it's gone to his head. Like a fighter pilot. (Not my favorite trope) It's mushy...not too bad...but mushy.
Scary Themes: Betrayal, being the odd-one-out, the Nothing (read The Neverending Story) swallowing everything.
Genre: High Fantasy
