Fantasy Mini Reviews

Notes: Not to be confused by Dickes work of a similar title, this book is loosely based off of "Puss and Boots," just with a detective dragon. Something that is a little weird is that the dragon doesn't specify whether it is a boy or a girl dragon. It's not meant to be um...like what that means today. The dragon prefers to be mysterious, and that is all. I came to the conclusion that the dragon is a girl.

Notes: This book is eccentric, whimsical, and witty. Need I say anything else?

Notes: Really sweet story, but SPOLIER!!! Diamond dies.

Notes: Hillarious retelling of "The Glass Hill"

Notes: This book is hardly like the movie. There are no giants who sing and dance, or political protests, of a fan club for Prince Charmont. Also, Ella is a bit younger...and the story is less funny...but I like it a lot.

Notes: This is a publishing house. Enclave publishes books for older teens and young adults. I have liked everything that I have read. Their books are often heavier and darker, and not for younger readers. I have reviewed several of their books.

Notes: What would you wish for if you could have one wish a day? That is what the children in this book must decide.

Notes: What if there was a portal to another world behind your baseball field and the groundskeeper was a sword-bearing wizard? Cool, right? By the way, this book series gets pretty intense at times, what with toothy crows, evil warlords, corrupt politicians, human witches, and so on.

Notes: This is a collection of short stories, all of which are laugh-out-loud funny.

Notes: I probably don't have to say anything for this one...but two warnings. One, the author writes with sarcasm towards the affection of parents and the persuadablility of children. Two, Tinker Bell repeatedly calls Peter a silly donkey...but in old english.

Notes: This is a funny retelling of "Sleeping Beauty."

Notes: Great adventure! Not my favorite, but I am not the target audience. (The target audience is twelve to sixteen year old boys) The biggest thing I have against it is that there is some swearing. It is limited to three words, used multiple times.

Notes: This series is very popular, and I have not read all the book, but the ones that I have read, they are similar to The Green Ember series

Notes: This is a collection of short stories, all of which have dragons.

Notes: Awesome series! The only thing I have to say is that Tash appears in "The Last Battle."

Notes: This book is Welsh, and has some hard-to-pronounce names. It's like LOTR...mixed with Macbeth...sort of. There are the Three Weird Sisters who have a cauldron that if you put dead people into it, they come back out sort of alive. Creepy! Also, there is the Horned King.

Notes: Great book! A word of warning: the hawks and wolves eat rabbits...mostly young ones. Also, the dragons in "Lander and the Dragon War" are involved in sorcery, which is presented as evil. (which it is)

Notes: If you are a fantasy fan and have not read this book...um, you need to. Beware the large spiders. And the dragon. And goblins, Wargs, and bats. (It's way less violent than the movie)

Notes: the princess is light in the sense that she doesn't weigh anything, not that she glows.

Notes: LOTR is the book that almost every fantasy author wants to write. The first half of the first book is...hard to get through.

Notes: Think politics and fantasy. And the main girl feels much older than she is.

Notes: This is a funny re-telling of "The Princess and the Pea"

Notes: This book is so good! (Beware the goblins)

Notes: I really like this book. Three things, though. One: Mole gets terrified in the Wild Wood. Two: a faun appears as the demigod protector of animals. Three: the animals occasionally express their opinions of another animal by calling him a donkey, in old english.

Notes: Beware the Toothy Cows. Sound interesting? It is. There is also a TV show on Angel Studios...might be a little scary. Read the book first. Um...I don't want to give spoilers, but some people turn into Fangs. (Wolf- lizard- or bat-people) also, well-loved characters die.

Notes: funny, lighthearted, and what some people call "Candy" books.
