Review

Summary: Archer Keaton, High School student by day and Dreamtreader by night. He, along with two other individuals, keep the Dream Realm from invading the Waking World, for if it does, chaos will follow.

Notes: I reluctantly place this bok in Low Fantasy, because there's not any magic in it, and that's one of the requirements for that genre. However, it will appeal to fantasy-lovers, and it does read like a fantasy adventure. The premise of the story is that Gabriel the Angel oversees a team of three humans who battle evil in the Dream Realm. Is it Gabriel the Archangel? Yeah, it's supposed to be. I was uncomfortable with that, since Gabriel the Archangel is real and, although the Bible records him interpreting dreams and appearing in visions, it never says that he oversees the Dreamtreaders. Ok, the Dreamtreaders aren't real, I know that. Wayne Thomas Batson is not saying that they are or anything like that. This series is a "what if?" type series and is very interesting. I solved my problem by pretending that this Gabriel was a different angel by the same name. That was better for me. Mixing fact and fiction and dreams together is another reason why I put this in the Low Fantasy Genre. I do really like the books, I just had to say all of that to let other readrs know.

Age of main character: High Schooler

Violence: Yes, but less descriptive than some of Wayne Thomas Batson's other books. Still, there's a lot. Fireballs, crazy monsters, fierce hunting dogs, trolls, and so on. What are the crazy things that happen in your dreams? The violence in this book fits somewhere between Terrifying Nightmare and Unusual Dream.

Romance: A little. The main character kinda likes a girl.

Scary themes: The Nightmare Lord, in the second book there's wraith-like creatures, SPOILER!!! at the end of the second book, the Dream Realm invades the Waking World and things get pretty weird. People can't distinguish between reality and fantasy.

Genre: Adventure/Alternant Reality/Low Fantasy
