Cloak of the Light by Chuck Black

Review

Summary: Drew Carter is an ordinary college student until a lab accident leaves him with the ability to see into the spiritual realm. Unfortunately, he has no idea what is going on. Will he realize “that Christian stuff” is all true...or will this prove too much for him?

Notes: The main character’s theory (until he becomes a Christian) is what you would expect: an alien invasion. Like all of Chuck Black’s books, it is excellent. There is a note in it that states that the author does not intend for his story to be taken as fact. Also, all the sentences in the book that are directly from the Bible are in bold. I appreciate this so much, because that makes it very easy to see what things are from the bible about angels and demons and what thing the author has invented. I cannot emphasize how much I appreciate it! This series makes one realize that spiritual warfare is a very real thing.

Violence: Extreme, but not overly descriptive. There are gang fights, FBI interrogations, weapons of all sorts are mentioned and used, school shooting, intoxicated youth, car crash in which someone dies, explosions, blindness, demonic possession, demonic monsters, averted trafficking scene, biological weaponization of the Ebola virus by terrorists.

Age of main character: Sixteen at very beginning

Romance: Yes. The main character really likes a girl, but she won’t date him because he is not a Christian. (She would like to, though. Nothing inappropriate happens.)

Scary themes: How about the entire book? Everything from demons to terrorists to corrupt politicians

Genre: Supernatural/Realistic Fiction
